Another great all-round team effort saw D Sunday comfortably beat Thornbury in the end
CC won the toss (again) and decided to bat (again).
A disastrous start saw us 6/48 off 22 overs with only Dave Polmear getting to double figures (just) out of the top 6.
A great batting display from CK - ending up with 85 n.o. - and good support from Sascha (36) and Venkatesh (18) saw us get to a defendable 191 from our 45 overs.
Newbie Dan Bavcevic opened the bowling with 5 tight, fast overs for only 6 runs.
He was ably supported by Venkatesh who picked up 1/11 off three before having to stop bowling due to a knee problem. His wicket came to a good running catch by CK who had to cover about 30m but made it look easy.
Sascha bowled another good spell with one wicket - a disputed caught behind that led to an official warning to the batsman (1/31 off 9).
Phil Tepper bowled a better line but showed he needs more practice (0/14 off 3).
At this stage Thornbury was slightly in front as they were scoring at around 3 and over with plenty of wickets in hand. In addition their big hitter (P. Taylor) had come in and was starting to find the boundaries with ease.
It was now the turn of the slower bowlers who took the game away from Thornbury.
Bill Kelsall led off with 1/28 off his 6 overs - including one 14 run over.
Chips chipped in with 2/14 off three - including the dangerman Taylor who flat-batted a ball straight to CK on the boundary at cow corner.
And finally, to wrap the innings up, Dave Polmear bowled a great spell to finish with 5/8 off his five overs.
A brilliant day out for CK who scored his first 50 ever. He also fielded with his usual vigour and took two good catches.
The other standout was Dave Polmear with his 5 wickets for not many.
A good effort by all in the field and good support batting from Sascha and Venkatesh was enough to give us a good win over a team that beat us in the first round.
