In a first for the season, CC lost the toss and the Yarras were in the field.
Brighton came out aggressively and a big innings from their opener (80) and their Number 5 (73) led to them setting a big target (5/238) that proved too big for the Yarras.
These two were riding their luck and hitting balls off a good length to all parts of the park, usually in the air and a tantalising few metres away from the fielders. When the ball was hit straight towards a fielder, it was usually 20m over their heads!
- Matt Bailey: 0/24 off 3
- Gid: 1/16 off 8
- Chris Macka: 1/39 off 9
- Bill Kelsall: 0/20 off 3
- Chips: 1/48 off 9
- Reg Lund (newbie): 0/28 off 6
- Dave Polmear: 0/32 off 5
- John Richards: 1/24 off 2
Unfortunately the Yarras were not able to match the big hitting.
Getting off to a poor start (CC 0, Dave Polmear 7) was not needed and just increased the pressure on the rest.
Wickets fell regularly with Vinod (31), Gid (31) and Reg Lund (38) the standouts.
At the end, we fell well short being all out for 165, with the other batsmen scoring:
- John Richards 14
- Matt Bailey 2
- Chris Macka 6
- Bill Kelsall 7
- Chips 1
- Craig Little continuing his form with 2 n.o. Craig has still never been dismissed in a cricket match!
My management training tells me you always have to end on a positive, so I will say that the afternoon tea that we put on was without a doubt the best one that we have seen for many seasons. Well done all!
